Musical.ly = Tik Tok !

The music video app Musical.ly belongs with the new update now to the sister application Tik Tok. But what does that mean for the users?

Musical.ly was merged in early August with its Chinese counterpart Tik Tok. Anyone who performs an update will no longer receive only the app Musical.ly, but “Tik Tok including Musical.ly”. A change that will surely irritate some users.

What is Tik Tok?

The Chinese video platform Tik Tok (also known as Douyin) is currently the market leader among similar video apps in Asia. In terms of usage, it is similar to the better-known Musical.ly in Europe. Users can watch music videos of others in the app or even create and edit small playback videos. The main difference between Tik Tok and Musical.ly is its enormous reach – Tik Tok currently has 5 times as many active users as Musical.ly with 100 million active users in June 2018.

What is Musical.ly?

Musical.ly is a music video network. Information about the app can be found on klicksafe.de u.a. in the article “Musical.ly – Risks of the app popular with children and adolescents”

Musical.ly now part of Tik Tok

Both Musical.ly and Tik Tok have their origins in China. Nevertheless, Musical.ly – unlike Tik Tok in China – has prevailed especially in European and American space. The fact that the two applications are merged was actually only a matter of time.

Since the giant Facebook has already turned a blind eye on Musical.ly, the company ByteDance (a Chinese company that bought Musical.ly $ 1 billion last year) had to seize the opportunity and combined both apps into one.

Both for the marketing of the apps, as well as for the revenue through advertising, this is now much easier: companies no longer have to decide between Musical.ly and Tik Tok and can now reach Europe, America and Asia by combining the two apps ,

What changes that to the previous Musical.ly app?

As soon as you download the new update of the Musical.ly app, you will no longer see the previously known pink logo, but the music note icon of the new “Tik Tok – including musical.ly” app. The essential functions of Musical.ly remain. Only small changes, such as new creative effects or personalized video suggestions, have come to it. Also new is an “alarm” that alerts you, similar to Facebook, as soon as you are active for more than two hours. The previously posted videos (posts) and the profile remain, with a few changes, received and are automatically transferred to the new app.

Tips for users!

Beware of copyright and copyright. The database from which you can choose your music for the playback videos, of course, has significantly increased by the merger of the two apps. But still applies: You have no rights to music or film clips! The music and movie scenes provided by the app are copyrighted and may not be reused. Therefore, do not share your Musical.lys on other networks or in larger groups.

Note the right to your own picture. Ask before you publish others in your musical.lys. Not everyone is right to be visible to others on a video.

Avoid cost traps. Even if the app itself is free, it can cost a lot of thoughtless use – such as in-app purchases or roaming charges abroad. Tiktok Video Downloader

Pay attention to your privacy. Do not spend too much of your videos – less is more. If you set your profile to “private” only your friends can see it. This not only makes a profile safer, but also more exclusive! Are you harassed or even bullied by other musicians, do not hesitate to report and block them.
